The Science Behind Basis

Basis by Elysium Health is made up of two main ingredients: nicotinamide riboside and pterostilbene. Nicotinamide riboside, which can be found in trace amounts in milk, is a highly efficient precursor to NAD+. Incorporating NR into the body has been shown to restore NAD+ levels in laboratory models, combating the age-related decline in the NAD+ supply that cells experience. Pterostilbene is a powerful polyphenol created by plants to protect against internal and external stress. In the human diet, it is available in trace amounts in certain types of berries. Lab studies have shown that it may improve metabolic health, in particular by activating sirtuins.

The study was placebo-controlled, randomized, and double-blind. Those elevated levels remained there until the end of the trial four weeks later.

The results of the trial were published in November 2017 in the peer-reviewed online science journal Nature Partner Journals: Aging and Mechanisms of Disease.
