In 2013, Donald Trump was in Moscow for the Miss Universe Pageant. But he was also in Moscow to get up close and personal with Vladimir Putin. Trump’s Russian pageant partners have a relationship with the Russian leader, and Trump wanted to meet with Putin to discuss his run for president in 2016, according to several sources. Putin isn’t a Hillary Clinton fan, and neither is Trump. Mr. Trump knew Clinton would be the Democratic candidate in 2016, so the men had something in common. They wanted to take down Clinton. But it wasn’t just the dislike for Hillary that brought the men together. It seems both men despise NATO and the European Union, and they wanted to shake up those organizations, according to the Washington Post.
Mr. Trump was riding high from the $20 million his Russian business partners coughed up for holding the pageant in Moscow in 2013. During his stay in Moscow, an interviewer asked him if he had a relationship with Putin. Trump said he did know Putin, and Putin does a brilliant job. Trump said he liked Putin’s ill-treatment of Obama, and he said Putin is one of the world’s premier leaders.
Trump’s visit to Helsinki was an eye-opener in a lot of ways for Robert Mueller’s team. There seemed to be a below the surface bro-code between Putin and Trump. The two-hour meeting between the leaders is still a mystery, but when Trump came out of the closed-door one-on-one meeting Putin was a true Russian loyalist, according to several news reports.
All the pieces of this Trump-Putin bromance seem to be surfacing now that Mueller continues to follow the $20 million Trump received in 2013. And all the other Russian money that ended up in his election war chest. There’s little doubt that Trump got a lot of help from Russia, and he is still getting help from his red friends.
But the verdict in the Paul Manafort trial is going to open another door Mueller and his team can walk through in their investigation. Manafort was at the now famous Trump Tower meeting with Don Jr., Jared Kushner, and a Russian lawyer connected to Putin. Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort claims he doesn’t know anything about the collusion or obstruction, but if there’s a guilty verdict, that tune may change.
Mueller and his investigators are close to discovering the truth about Putin and Trump. Trump still claims Mueller is hunting witches. But the only witch he’s hunting is the good witch of truth.
