North Korean Leader Warns Of Nuclear Power

North Korea, Nuclear Bomb, Nuclear Test

The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, is known for making bold statements. In fact, he releases so many of these types of statements through his state-run press that it would be easy to ignore them on some occasions if the subject material was not so important. The latest statement from the North Korean leader is about his country’s nuclear program.

Kim Jong Un states that North Korea is a nuclear power and that he has the button to push to release the missiles on his desk for use at any time that he feels necessary says CNBC.

This was something that the North Korean leader pronounced during the New Years address that is given every year in the country. It is a tradition in the country to make this kind of nation-wide address every New Years Day. However, this is the first time in which the leader has declared outright that his country is a nuclear power.

As with any address from the North Korea leader, it is important to take it with a grain of salt. They put out this kind of material on a regular basis, and it is very difficult for outsiders to know for sure how realistic the statements that are made really are. Some believe that the things that the leader says are nothing more than bluster and chest-thumping.

It is possible that North Korea is just looking for a little more attention during this time of year. They could be trying to win concessions from other developed countries for a lifting of some sanctions, or perhaps to win other humanitarian aid that the country certainly needs.

The whole world has to stop and listen when North Korea makes statements like this. Even if it is nothing more than a bluff, that is a very high-stakes bluff. We have to understand where they are coming from and why they would make such a statement if they were not serious about following through on it. Calculating just how much the North Koreas are bluffing or not is very difficult to do since the country is so secretive. We can only hope that our assumptions and best guesses about the country are true. At the moment, even our own military is not completely positive about what level of nuclear capabilities the North Koreans really possess. It could really be the case that they could launch at a moment’s notice.
