Senator Dianne Feinstein to Seek the Sixth Term

At the moment, Senator Dianne Feinstein is the oldest senator in the United States Senate. It has been a long career for the California Democrat who has seen four presidents. She has been part of two wars and has seen one impeachment. This is not all as she has even seen the election of Donald Trump as president of the United States. Today, its eight months before she hits her 85 birthday and the California Senator says that she has the energy to do it again. If she manages to return to Congress, this will be the 6th term for her. She disclosed that she would be seeking for the sixth term two days ago on Twitter. This comes at a time when the Democrats are responding to the ideological and generation turmoil that has been ongoing in the country. California is notable for its old leaders that include Nancy Pelosi, the House Democratic Leader, Gov. Jerry Brown and Ms. Feinstein. These are individuals who have been power for over a generation. As for Gov. Brown, he is 79 years and will retire next year thanks to the term limit. In the past few months, there has been some speculation that Ms. Feinstein was considering retirement.

A 44 years old Bay Area activist known as Kimberly Elvis says that people in the area want some younger blood. She further said that the state of California has never fallen short of talent. She feels that young people should be given a chance to lead, it’s what they want. The resilience of the old guard has also become an issue in Congress often creating tension. A California Democrat Representative known as Linda Sanchez recently said that the old should allow the younger generation to lead. Ms. Sanchez is 48 years old. She singled out Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats above the age of 70 to retire. The Democratic Party is also thinking about how it should respond to the unexpected defeat of their presidential candidate. As for Ms. Dianne, she mentioned in an interview that her experience has been crucial in dealing with rational and critical issues. According to her, the voters are the only people who can decide whether she is fit enough or there is need for fresh blood. She said that she had the required energy. At the same time, she said her mind was fresh and she had the support of the Democrats.
